KEYNOTE ADDRESSES

Two keynote addresses will be presented by nationally and internationally recognized scholars in biomechanics. These presentations will be one hour in length each. Ron Zernicke

The ASB Keynote Address will be presented by Dr. Ron Zernicke, Director of the Musculoskeletal and Sport Injury Prevention Center, on Saturday April 12, 2008.  Dr. Zernicke is a professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Division of Kinesiology, and Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan. His research focuses on: (1) functional adaptation of bone to exercise, disuse, diet, and disease; (2) bone and cartilage interactions in post-traumatic osteoarthritis, and (3) biomechanics of normal and pathological movements. For 17 years at UCLA and the past 10 years at the University of Calgary, Dr. Zernicke and his colleagues have made major advances in two areas of musculoskeletal research-dynamics and neuromotor control of multi-body biological systems and the functional adaptation of bone and joints to exercise, diet, and injury. Dr. Zernicke will present Bone Adaptation: Diet, Exercise & Injury.

John MiltonThe SCCB Keynote Address will be presented by Dr. John Milton, the William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor of Computational Neuroscience at Scripps College, on Friday April 11, 2008. Dr. Milton is a professor of Biology in the Joint Sciences Department in the Claremont Colleges. Dr. Milton is a neuroscientist and neurologist who is a world-leading expert on the neurobiology of the development of expertise.  His multi-disciplinary research has involved high resolution motion capture and multimodal imaging (e.g. functional magnetic resonance imaging) studies of novice and elite athletes together with mathematical and computer modeling studies. As a clinical neurologist he is well experienced in the assessment of clinical movement disorders. Moreover, he has worked for the last five years teaching golf to those with physical and neurological disabilities with the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) and The University of Chicago Golf Neurology clinic. Dr. Milton will present Sticks, falls, and walking shoes: Legends of the fall.
